Brian

Hopkins

Pastor

Pastor Brian is a native of West Union, SC and has lived in Oconee County his entire life. He is passionate about teaching the Word of God and helping others become the servant-hearted disciples of Jesus that God intends them to be. Brian and his wife Shannon have been married for twenty-seven years and have two sons and two grandsons.

Brian came to know our LORD Jesus at a young age, and quickly felt God’s strong calling to serve as a pastor. Brian served his state and country for twenty-seven years in the SC Army National Guard – the last eight of these as a battalion chaplain. Brian also served as Associate Pastor of Education and Administration for Open Door Baptist Church in Walhalla, SC from 2012 until he was called to serve as pastor at Mt. Freedom Baptist Church in 2019.

Brian holds a BS in Business Administration from Southern Wesleyan University and a Master of Divinity from Luther Rice Seminary and University.

Brian and Sue Hupp are devoted Bible-believing Christians who desire to serve and honor our LORD Jesus Christ in everything we do as we anxiously await His soon return to rule and reign over all the Earth.

We first met while assigned together in the US Air Force, and have been married for over 40 years. We are empty-nesters with two grown sons. Brian recently retired, from a 45+ year career in information systems.

We came to know the Lord relatively late in life, so we’re trying to fill our remaining days with devotion to our beloved Savior Jesus.

After living in many places in the USA and in Europe, we have finally settled down on a small huppstead on Lake Becky in Mountain Rest, South Carolina where we live with our three little dogs.

Williams

Education Leader

Growing up, my family attended a small church much like Mt. Freedom, so coming to Mt. Freedom was like coming “home”.
Becoming the children’s Sunday School teacher and Education Leader wasn’t something I foresaw, but God…
I love children, all animals and underdogs. To me, they are the meek and the humble that Jesus loved so much.
I feel that we all have a responsibility to teach our children about God — His word, His love and His ways.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Missions Leader

I came to know the Lord on February 9, 2014. Since then, I have been on a mission to find something that I am passionate about. I have taught Sunday school (all different ages), directed VBS, led the women’s group, and much more. But I have found that the one thing I am passionate about is missions. Loving on other people whether they know the Lord or not. I pray daily that when I rise in the morning, I go out into the world to show others God through my actions and my words. Through missions on our mountain, I pray that I am able to help someone in some way and to show them our heavenly Father who loves them unconditionally.
